Overview. The Fightmaster Cup will be match play golf competition between European and North American teams from the Society of One-Armed Golfers (Society) and the North American One Armed Golf Association (NAOAGA). The competition will be managed and operated by Louisville Events, Inc., not-for-profit organization doing business as The Cup Experience under the direction of the Mayor's 2008 Louisville Host Committee. The competition will take place September 12-13-14, 2008.
Teams. Each team will be comprised of 12 players and a Captain. The Society and NAOAGA each have appointed a team Captain and selected their respective teams based on the organizations' championship competitions and through discretionary selections by the Captains.
Site. The Event will be held at the Cardinal Club, a private course located in Shelby County in Simpsonville, Kentucky, 20 miles from Louisville. The Cardinal Club is a Spencer Holt-designed course with Bent grass, course rating of 73.4, slope of 134 and will measure approximately 6,100 yards during Fightmaster competition.
On-Course Accommodations. The Tom Musselman Center will serve as the Tournament Headquarters. The Center has private locker room facilities for each team, space for official scoring, for tournament organizers and media facilities. Teams will have access to practice facilities during set times on the Official days of Tournament play. The course and the Musselman Center are home to the University of Louisville Men's and Women's Golf Teams.
Tournament Play. The Fightmaster Cup will duplicate Ryder Cup in format of play: Four-Ball and Alternating Shot competition on Friday and Saturday; match play on Sunday. The official practice rounds will be held Tuesday, September 9 and Thursday, September 11; tournament play will be held September 12-13-14. Carts and caddies/helpers will be allowed. Caddies will be provided upon request. A ceremonial "first ball" will open the tournament Friday morning.
Tournament Officials. Drew Conliff will serve as Tournament Director, with Marty Storch as Assistant Director. The Director and Assistant will oversee all aspects of course set up, play, scoring and rules. PGA Club Pro Chris Hamburger will assist with course accommodations and set up. A Tournament Referee will accompany each group, along with standard bearers.
Sanctioning & Special Rules. The matches will be played under USGA rules. In advance of the Tournament, the Tournament Directors, in conjunction with the KPGA, the Society and NAOAA, will establish any necessary special rules and/or accommodations for play.
Ceremonies. An Opening Ceremony will take place on Thursday at the course; a brief awards ceremony will follow play on Sunday afternoon at the course. An Awards Banquet will be held Sunday evening in downtown Louisville.
Trophy. The Fightmaster Cup Trophy was designed by Eastern Kentucky artist Sam McKinney. The trophy was produced and donated by North American Stainless, part of the Acerinox Group of companies, with US headquarters in Carroll County, Kentucky.
Official Itinerary. Participants will arrive in Louisville no later than September 7 and will participate in media interviews, awards ceremonies, social events with sponsors and local dignitaries, clinics, etc.
Golf Outings. Fightmaster Teams will play the following schedule:
Monday, Sept. 8: approx. 10:30 a.m. - Shawnee Golf Course, followed by special needs clinic at First Tee facility at Shawnee.
Tuesday, Sept. 9: 12:30 p.m. Fightmaster Pro-Am at Persimmon Ridge Golf Club
Wednedsay, Sept. 10: 10:30 a.m. Cardinal Club outing with club members
Thursday, Sept. 11: 10 a.m. Cardinal Club - Official Practice Round
Friday, Sept. 12: 8 a.m. & 1:30 p.m. Cardinal Club - Fightmaster Cup competition Best Ball & Alternating Shot
Saturday, Sept. 13: 8 a.m. & 1:30 p.m. Cardinal Club - Fightmaster Cup competition Best Ball & Alternating Shot
Sunday, Sept. 14: 10:30 a.m. Cardinal Club - Fightmaster Cup competition - Match Play
