Place of Birth: Louisville, Kentucky

Alan Gentry, nicknamed "Big Al," "Lefty" and "Wheels," took home the Disabled Player Championship Trophy in 1998 at a LPGA Pro-Am event in Chicago. Under a shamble format, he missed a putt on the 18th hole to tie his partner, LPGA Tour Pro Cindy Rarick, at 3-under 69. He settled for a 2-under 70, winning by 12 strokes. A real estate investor, Gentry is the unpaid officer/director for the North American One-Armed Golfer Association and the Pleasure Valley Lions Club in Louisville. Gentry was an accomplished junior golfer in the 1970s and '80s, but declined opportunities to continue playing in college. He got away from golf for a while in his 20s, but returned to the game in 1993 after losing his right arm during an accident in which his jacket sleeve became attached to a rotating auger of a drill rig. He credits Don Fightmaster for inspiring him to pursue one-armed golf and to give back to others. Ironically, at the time of his accident/amputation, his father had been working in the orthotic and prosthetic industry for more than 30 years and fitted him for his first prosthesis. A graduate of the University of Louisville, Gentry has worked as a scientist, field geologist and hydrogeologist. He and his wife have two kids. The left-handed Gentry plays from the right side. Golf Handicap: 11
